Rome Italy - A Tour Through Centuries

Timeless.

When you think Italy, you think rolling hills in Tuscany, peaceful gondola rides in Venice, and the ruins of years past in Rome. What you don’t always realize is how culturally different each part is from one another. This trip with bookended by two polar opposite cities, with Rome being the most fast paced and touristy of the two. Our days were spent jumping from spot to spot, while trying our best to take it all in.

With such a large city spread over so many areas, we were still able to see the sites (Lizzy McGuire movie trip). There was the Pantheon, the Colosseum, and of course the cat sanctuary nestled in ruins thousands of years old. Yet with all of this, we found ourselves enjoying just wondering through the aging streets finding food and history, without pressure to see the sites.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and definitely isn’t seen in a day. If you visit, take your time and enjoy life exploring everything it has to offer.

The Process

These images were taken with a Nikon FE2 and both the 28mm f/3.5 and the 50mm f/1.8. I exposed Portra 400 at 200, and Portra 800 at 800, but pushed one stop. I again found that both Portra stocks and the Ektar performed great, but at times the lack of contrast and cloudy weather made tones more subtle.
